Commission-blind AI — why it matters
Most of the internet's commercial infrastructure is built on paid ranking. Search results, marketplace listings, comparison sites, affiliate links — all of them route money from merchants to the platform that showed you the option.
Agentic commerce inherits that model by default. Unless the agent is built, from the first commit, to refuse it.
What commission-blind means
A commission-blind agent has no revenue relationship with any merchant it evaluates. No affiliate ID. No paid placement slot. No "recommended partner" tier. The ranking a merchant receives is a function of the buyer's stated preferences and the merchant's actual offer — nothing else.
Why it has to be architectural, not a policy
Any agent that could take a commission eventually will — because the business needs revenue, and paid ranking is the easiest revenue an agent can generate. The only durable defence is to build the system so the option isn't available. Different revenue model, different code path, different audit trail.
How VendeeX enforces it
- The agent runs locally, so no server-side ranking service can be paid off.
- Vendee Labs holds no merchant contracts that condition placement.
- Every recommendation is accompanied by a signed record of the inputs.
- The buyer can inspect why a merchant ranked where it did.
How to test any buying agent
Ask the operator: "Can a merchant pay you to appear higher in my results?" If the answer isn't an unambiguous no, backed by an architecture that makes it impossible, the agent is a sales channel wearing an AI costume.
